Puppies!
This summer, AVH's Ivy had a litter of puppies to add to our pack. The father was AVH's Sailor. There are eight puppies - 2 females and 6 males. They will be named for the year they were born and this year the names must begin with the letter T. Also this summer, we received a hound from Eglinton and Caledon hunt named Gorgeous, who was bred. She recently had a little of six puppies - 2 females and 4 males. Her puppies will be named for her so their names will start with the letter G. A contest to name hounds will be held during our Harvest Dance on September 25. We'll also be looking to place these 14 puppies in couples in the next little while, so contact us if you are interested in being a "puppy walker".

The Hunt Pace was a great success.
AVH hosted a Hunt Pace at the Rollicking Horse Ranch, the home of Gerry and Judy Johnston, and it was very well attended and very successful as a fund raiser for the club bringing in a whopping $1030. Eleven teams rode in one of three classes - Heels of the Hounds, Hill Toppers, and Turtles. Each class rode a beautiful, flagged route which had been previously measured for a secret, optimal time. The Heels of the Hounds represented an authentic AVH hunt with sections where you could imagine hounds blasting along on a hot scent and other places where they would have been just walking or stopped trying to regain the line. Hill Toppers followed a similar route but cut out some of the gnarlier sections as well as took to high points (hill tops) for a better (imaginary) view of running hounds. Turtles was for mothers and their daughters (or delicate western riders) to take a nice leisurely trip throught beautiful woods trails and dream about riding to hounds this season. Following the ride, the teams competed in a Tail Gate extravaganza that saw Western Saloons, hippie communes, ocean beach scenes, Hawaiian luaus, and relaxed, but refined country kitchens spring up all over Gerry and Judy's fields.

Hunt Website finally updated
The Hunt website has been undergoing a refit for several months (I know some might say "years") and it has been finally launched. In addition to the content pages, the new site now features a Hunt Diaries section where our Hunt Historian, Beth Rand-Smith, will be posting her musings about hunt events as well as descriptions of our days sport for each hunt. Anyone who would like to write a hunt diary is welcome to - just email annapolisvalleyhunt@gmail.com and we'll send you a username and password and instructions on how to do it. There is now also a photo gallery section and if you would like to be able to post your hunt pictures, just email us as above.
Our huntsman Paul is excited to see the "Hound of the Week" challenge restarted (since he invariably earns a free drink at the breakfast from it) so watch the front page for each week's featured hound. We invite our hunt photographers to submit their best hound photos to fuel the competition.
